Christa emailed me…
My Dr. prescribed Lovaza brand Omega 3 Acid Ethyl Esters. Are you familiar with this. He has put me on 4 grams a day.
Thanks for your input.

My reply…
Hi Christa,
Thanks for sharing.
Here’s some info on Lovaza which I came across that goes into a study that reveals it actually raises bad cholesterol levels…

I also found this article which is less negative…

If you find Lovaza to be expensive, there’s always the natural and less expensive versions of fish oil out there. Your doctor didn’t simply recommend fish oil- most likely ’cause he doesn’t get paid by the fish oil companies but only by the pharmaceutical companies. You can go by your doctor’s recommendation but I’d make sure your cholesterol is closely monitored. If things don’t change for you on Lovaza, here’s a site that gives you a list of recommended fish oils…

IFOS testing is done for many companies as a third party quality control testing service.
I hope that helps Christa. Good for you for researching out what your doctor recommends. Continue to do that and then ask him questions along the way. Remember you hire your doctor to work for you.
Blessings,
Merri Ellen
