- Making poor food choices – including eating foods that you may be allergic to and not even know it!
- Cutting yourself off from others or not making an effort to meet people
- Putting up with others who emotionally abuse you
- Allowing bitterness to overtake you
- Allowing anger to get the best of you
- Beating yourself up mentally
- Not forgiving yourself
- Not getting any exercise in the outdoors
- Not reaching out to others to help them. Often times stepping out of our own problems to reach out to others does a world of a difference. It helps take the focus off your own problems. Helping others gives you a sense of purpose and investing in your world.

i’d totally agree with you that doing these things will keep a person stuck in depression. wouldn’t say that they are causes, though … ?
Hi Isabella,
Thanks for your comment. Welcome to my little world over here. I guess I would agree with you. There indeed are bigger causes such as traumatic experiences not properly dealt with, continual emotional abuse, workaholism and stress, for example.
The list above are then ruts one gets into to prevent getting out of depression. Wouldn’t you say?
yup, ruts – that’s a great word!
